Activity description
After getting acquainted with your driver and the necessary briefing on the upcoming excursion, you will head Southeast towards Kavousi village located in the northern foothills of the Thripti mountain range. There we will make our fist quick stop for a traditional Greek coffee. After our coffee break, our off-road course begins. We will drive towards the ancient olive tree near the Azoria archaeological site (The oldest known olive tree in the world that was planted within the period of 1350-1100 B.C) where we will make a short stop so that we learn a little bit more about its history and take some pictures. A few meters down the road we meet the archaeological site of Ancient Azoria. Azoria is a very important archaeological site, as it was established during the Minoan era and was continuously inhabited from the Neolithic Age until the 5th century BC, when it was completely destroyed by fire. It was temporarily relocated in the 2nd century BC, when a tower was built that overlooked the beaches. There we will have the opportunity to visit the site, walk among the ruins and take pictures. Then we will continue our off-road adventure until we reach the abandoned observatory, located on the top of Thrypti mountain. From that location you will experience a breathtaking view of the north and south of the Island and on a clear day you will even be able to see the north and south shores of Crete all from that same spot. Later, we will drive towards Thrypti village where we will lunch in a traditional tavern with handmade food made from locals and experience the traditional Cretan hospitality (philoxenia). Once we eat our full and are ready to depart, we will start driving towards the small traditional village Kato Chorio where we will make a quick stop for Tsikoudia (a traditional Cretan alcoholic beverage) and from there, via the provincial road reach the exit of the Ηa Canyon (a technical canyon, one of the 5 most famous canyons in Europe especially among canyoners.
